Lorna’s incredible journey from chronic back pain to competition winner!

When Lorna joined The Right Fit, she was reasonably fit but living with something that was stealing her quality of life: chronic lower back pain and the constant fear of re-injury. Simple activities felt risky, her sleep was disrupted, and her mood suffered from the ongoing discomfort.

Within several months of starting a targeted resistance training programme designed to strengthen her back muscles, something remarkable happened. The pain began to resolve, then disappeared altogether. The impact went far beyond just physical relief. Her mobility improved, she slept better, and her mood lifted dramatically.

But Lorna didn’t stop there. She lost 8 kilograms in her first six months, then went on to win The Right Fit Takapuna 8-week Exercise Challenge with her teammates. The following year, she became the female TRF New Zealand 8 Week Fat Loss Winner and was nominated Takapuna Client of the Year.

What makes Lorna’s story special isn’t just the competitions and awards. It’s how she found a community that became integral to her life. The friendships and support from the TRF Takapuna community became incredibly important to her, turning fitness from a chore into something she genuinely looked forward to.

Working with trainer Chris has been transformational for Lorna, someone she describes as a friend, coach, and mentor all in one. She’s currently working toward consistently squatting more than her bodyweight and plans to tackle the next Exercise Challenge.

When joining The Right Fit, I lost 8kg of body weight within the first 6 months, a great start! Building on this, my teammates and I won The Right Fit Takapuna 8-week Exercise Challenge later that year. During the following year, I was the female TRF New Zealand 8 Week Fat Loss Winner. I was also nominated Takapuna Client of the Year during this time.

Prior to joining TRF Takapuna, I was reasonably fit but was plagued with chronic low back pain and fear of re-injury. Within several months of a targeted resistance training programme to strengthen my back musculature, the pain began to resolve and soon disappeared altogether. This had a hugely positive impact on my mobility, sleep quality and mood! Aside from my own personal fitness goals, the wonderful people that make up the TRF Takapuna community have become an integral part of my life, and their friendship and support are incredibly important to me.

My trainer Chris has been instrumental in achieving the results I’ve had so far and has become in equal parts friend, coach, and mentor. He is the most talented and knowledgeable personal trainer that I have worked with and his genuine focus on his client’s wellbeing makes him so skilled at extracting the best out of them.

We are currently working towards making progress in some strength outcomes. One of my longer-term goals is to consistently squat more than my bodyweight. Another goal is to take part in the next Exercise Challenge!
