Who we work with

We will train anyone who wants to train. Genuinely anyone.

But over seventeen years three groups have found their way to us more than any other, and we have built a lot of what we do around them. This page explains who they are and why, so you can work out whether we are likely to be a good fit.

If you are not in any of the three, you are still welcome. This is an honest picture of who is usually in the room, not a door policy.

People over 40

Somewhere around 40, training tends to fall off. Work gets heavier, kids need you, injuries take longer to clear, and the gym starts to feel like somewhere you used to go.

It is also the decade where training starts paying its biggest dividends. Muscle and bone both decline from your thirties onwards unless something is actively working against that, and both respond to training at every age that has been studied. This is one of the more reversible things in health.

Most of our over-40 clients train two or three times a week and get results that surprise them.

Teenagers

We train teenagers from thirteen, one-on-one or two-on-one, across all four studios.

Adolescence is when the skeleton is laid down and when movement habits are set. Supervised strength training in these years builds peak bone mass, reduces sports injuries, and teaches young people how to move in a way that carries into every sport they will ever play.

It also does not stunt their growth, whatever you have heard. That is settled in the research and we have written it up properly.

Anyone starting again

The third group is harder to label, because it is the broadest.

People coming back after an injury. After having children. After a diagnosis, or a surgery, or a year where everything else came first. People who used to be fit and have not trained in a decade. People who have never trained at all and have been putting off walking through the door.

There is no separate programme for this, because it is not really a category. It is just the most common way people arrive here, and it is worth saying out loud that it is normal.

What all three have in common

Not much, on the face of it. A 15-year-old rugby player and a 62-year-old returning after a hip replacement are not doing the same session.

What connects them is the approach.

We start where you are. No fitness test on day one, no leaderboard, nobody watching. The first session is a conversation and a movement assessment.

You get one trainer. Not a rotating roster. Someone who knows your history, your injuries, and what you are actually trying to do.

Small studios. All four of our sites are small by design. It is a different experience to walking into a warehouse.

We say what we think. If something is outside what we should be handling, we will tell you and point you somewhere better. That has cost us business occasionally and we would still rather do it.

And if none of this is you

Come anyway.

We train people preparing for their first half marathon and people who want to be able to carry the shopping in one trip. We train competitive athletes and people who have been told by a doctor that they need to do something. The three groups above are where most of our clients come from, not a list of who is allowed in.

The first consultation is free and there is no lock-in contract, so there is not much to lose by finding out.

Common questions

Do I need to be a certain age to train here?

No. The groups above are simply where most of our clients come from. Our only firm rule is that we train young people from thirteen, not younger.

I have never trained before. Will I be out of place?

No. Starting from nothing is the most common way people arrive here, and every programme is built from wherever you actually are.

What does it cost?

Personal training starts from $75 per session and two-on-one from $95. New clients also pay a one-off $199 starter fee, which covers your first programming session plus two sessions with our nutritionist. Full detail is on our pricing page.

Which studio should I go to?

Whichever is closest. We are in Epsom, Ponsonby, Takapuna and Remuera, and your membership covers all four.

Do I have to sign up for a fixed term?

No. There are no lock-in contracts and no minimum term.
